It's time to get on board

Electric school buses are changing transportation for the better

It's time to ditch the dirty diesel buses that transport 25 million kids in America each day. Electric school buses have arrived and the case for adopting them is more compelling than ever.

The benefits of going electric start right on board: EV buses solve the current problem of kids being exposed to concerning levels of diesel fumes. More broadly, electric buses improve the air quality and health outcomes of our communities. Even when charged on a grid powered largely by fossil fuels, electric buses account for far fewer emissions than their diesel and natural gas counterparts. Just replacing all of the nation’s school buses with electric alternatives could prevent the emissions equivalent of over 1 million cars.

Last—but certainly not least—electric buses save schools money. A school district in California is saving an estimated $8,000 to $15,000 a year on energy and maintenance. Those savings, paired with the improvements in community air quality and health outcomes, are giving the district plenty of reasons to feel good about its investment.

It’s time for schools to make the switch—for our kids, for our schools and communities, and for our transition to 100% clean energy.

Clean Transportation for Healthier Neighborhoods Webinar
Hear from an industry expert to learn how school districts can save money and provide a healthier environment for our communities by switching to electric school buses. U.S. PIRG's Transportation Campaign Director, Matt Casale, will teach us about: - The state of the technology of electric school buses - The health effects of diesel buses on children - The lifetime cost savings and potential funding options - The relationship between transportation and renewable energy.

It's time for schools to hop on the (electric) bus
U.S. school buses transport more than 25 million children each day, traveling a total of 4 billion miles annually along standard routes. While current diesel bus fleets get the job done, they expose young passengers to concerning levels of diesel fumes. Replacing all of the nation’s school buses with electric alternatives could prevent the emissions equivalent of 1.1 million cars.
