  • Energy Efficiency Retrofits Grants: The Energy Efficiency Retrofits Grants, administered by the Washington State Department of Commerce, provide competitive funding for energy efficiency improvements in public buildings, including schools, hospitals, community centers, and state colleges. These grants help reduce energy costs, lower pollution, and create jobs. Eligible projects include lighting upgrades, insulation, window replacements, and other energy efficiency measures, with solar photovoltaic projects also qualifying for funding. Schools and other public entities can receive up to $350,000 for energy efficiency projects and up to $250,000 for solar energy projects. Funding amounts vary based on project costs. READ MORE →
  • Solar Grants: The Energy Efficiency and Solar Grants Program (EE&S) funds projects at state public higher education institutions, local government facilities, state agencies, kindergarten through 12th grade (K-12) public school districts and federally recognized tribal governments.   • Solar Financial Incentives: A new bill (E2SSB 5116) provides a 100% sales and use tax exemption on purchases of machinery and equipment used directly in a solar energy system if both of the following apply: The system is capable of generating at least 1 kW, but no more than 100 kW, AC of electricity and is purchased between July 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2029.   • EarthGen: EarthGen (formally Washington Green Schools) is a nonprofit organization that guides and supports students and school communities to be leaders for a healthy environment. WGS is training teachers across the state in climate science and the Next Generation Science Standards in collaboration with local climate scientists and the state’s Education Service Districts.
